The Farmers of Fatworks

The foundation of Fatworks is supporting small family farming.  Each farmer is an inspiration in their own way, yet all share the same belief in raising their livestock in the most sustainable, humane, and environmentally friendly way possible.  Fatworks is proud to source from, support and promote these excellent small family farms.  Each month or so we will be featuring one of our farmers, so that you can better understand where your fat comes from.  This month we are featuring none other than…

Gunthorpe Farms

Lei and Greg Gunthorpe have been raising non-gmo fed animals on pasture raised since 1998 with two simple foundational principles: feed the animals as well as possible and create a more sustainable food supply. Since then they have grown into a full-on, "family affair" with a next generation of Gunthorpe's working the farm every day.  They have always worked from the ethic that from the first day of an animals life, all the way to harvest, excellent animal husbandry and humane treatment is the top concerns.  It would not be an exaggeration to say that anyone who enjoys pasture-raised meat in the U.S. owes the Gunthorpe’s many thanks as they have unquestionably been one of the leading and most outspoken advocates of pasture-raised farming of the last twenty years. The Gunthorpe's have put their mouths (and lots of money!) to fight against the antiquated ways of USDA processing when they convinced the USDA to allow the use of citric acid as an anti-microbial rinse rather than the carcinogenic chlorine rinse typically used.  They also fought to gain approval to rapidly air-chill birds instead of using chemicals.  In addition to running a farm and processing plant, Greg tirelessly tours the country giving talks teaching about the latest sustainable pasture raised farming methods.  The Gunthorpes are tireless warriors and advocates for small farms, small processors, rural development, sustainable operations, and antibiotic free, non-gmo animals. Needless to say Fatworks is mighty proud to support their farm.  Bonus: check out the informative food documentary "Sustainable" on Netflix, Amazon or Vudu and you will find as Gunthorpe Farms mentioned.

Gunthorpe Farms In Action

Just a few pictures of Greg Gunthorpe and family on and about their farm. Farm country is always beautiful, at least we find it so, but since Gunthorpe Farm is one of the only farms that raises pasture raised, non-gmo fed duck in the whole country please gaze upon with awe and admiration!
